The general rule when it comes to cremated remains is that one cubic inch equals one cubic inch of body weight. Thus, if a body weighs around 140 lbs., then you will need an urn that can contain 180 cubic inches of ashes. 

What are the urn sizes available?

Thankfully, cremation urns are offered in a wide range of sizes to fit every use and need. 

The standard size of an individual arn is designed to contain the ashes of just one person, with a capacity of around 180 to 250 cubic inches. This is just the normal range, and it totally depends on the type of urn you choose. 

There are also smaller sizes of urns in the the form of keepsake urns. These are usually used to contain only a portion of the ashes, which come as jewellery or decorative pieces. Infant urns can also be used for very young children or babies. Keepsake urns can contain around 6 cubic inches of ashes, whereas infant urns can hold around 14 to 80 cubic inches. 

Pet cremation urns come in a variety of sizes and styles. It usually ranges from 15 cubic inches up to over 100 cubic inches for larger pets.

Do I need to buy an urn from the funeral home?

No, it is not necessary that you buy from a funeral home. There is a rule that states that funeral providers can not charge a corkage or refuse service should you buy an urn from somewhere else. Thanks to this, you can enjoy shopping from a cremation urn online which can give you more options.

What will I receive from the funeral home after cremation?

After cremation, the ashes or cremated remains will usually be given to you in a sealed bag or a temporary urn. This is meant to be transferred into a permanent urn.

Will it be alright to use a human cremation urn for my pet’s ashes?

Yes! You can use a human cremation urn for pet ashes. It is completely your choice, as long as it will be enough to contain all or a portion of the ashes.
